Grad student wins ASME award for robot design

MechSE master's student Xiaotian Zhang and ISE PhD student Naveen Kumar Uppalapati won third prize at the ASME Student Mechanism and Robot Design Competition (graduate division) for their entry “BR2 Manipulator with a Soft Gripper.” 

 

The competition took place August 2-5, 2015, at the 2015 Mechanisms and Robotics Conference in Boston, Massachusetts.

Zhang and Uppalapati received a cash prize at the conference, courtesy of the National Science Foundation. Their entry was one of 13 submitted to the competition. Each team made an oral presentation and presented an interactive poster and prototype.
