The fall 2013 semester is in full swing, and it's off to a great start.  We started off the semester by welcoming our incoming graduate students at our orientation workshops hosted by myself and Dr. Johnson.  It wasn't long before the first day of classes arrived, and it seems that everyone has settled into their new schedules nicely.  We can't wait to hear from our students as their classes and projects progress throughout the semester.

As part of the start-of-semester events, I also had the privilege of attending the annual SURGE/MERGE luncheon with our students.  It was so great spending time with our students! If you aren't award of our SURGE/MERGE program, you can read more details here.

Some of our students hosted welcome back events as well!  MechSE Grad Women had a fall retreat at the Curtis Orchard in Savoy, IL.  To the right is a picture of the group with the Curtis Orchard archer statue.  You can see more pictures at their website. We also got a sneak peek at the new MechSE grad student lounge which will be opening soon!

MechSE students who missed any of the kick-off events and would like copies of handouts can find electronic copies for download in My.MechSE in the "Secure Document Distribution" section.  Students can also find a copy of the Graduate College Handbook at http://www.grad.illinois.edu/gradhandbook.
