What do students do for fun?

“Is there anything fun to do on this campus?”
A visiting student asked me this question not too long ago. What was my reply? “YES! The list of opportunities available on our campus is endless!”

Champaign-Urbana is a rich, vibrant community. If you are seeking arts and cultural programs, you can find a full list here. If you are seeking athletics, check out this page.  Looking for an intramural sport?  Go here.  And if you’d like to explore the off-campus environment, the list continues.  A good place to start for area attractions would be the Champaign County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

If you'd like to get involved in extra curricular activites with other students, the University of Illinois is the place for you.  Did you know that there are over 1,100 registered student organizations at the University of Illinois?  You can browse student organizations at this link.  Looking for public engagement and outreach opportunities?  Check out the Office of Public Engagement.

Want to get more involved with MechSE Students?  In the MechSE department, our students have formed two organizations, MechSE Graduate Women (MGW) and Graduate MechSE Students (GraMS). Our students have formed these groups for professional and social development of students in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering.  In fact, MGW hosted a retreat last fall to Kickapoo State Park (you can read more about it on their website), and GraMS recently volunteered on a sustainable student farm.

I also stumbled upon a “101 Things To Do Before You Graduate” list here. I wonder how many of these our current students can check off?
