Toussaint named OSA Fellow

MechSE associate professor Kimani Toussaint has been elected to be a Fellow of the Optical Society of America.

The OSA stated he is being recognized “for contributions to quantitative nonlinear optical imaging of tissues, polarization wavefront engineering in free space, and the development and application of multifunctional plasmonic nanoantennas.”

Founded in 1916, The Optical Society (OSA) is the leading professional organization for scientists, engineers, students and business leaders who fuel discoveries, shape real-life applications and accelerate achievements in the science of light.

The Optical Society's (OSA) mission is to promote the generation, application and archiving of knowledge in optics and photonics and to disseminate this knowledge worldwide. The purposes of the Society are scientific, technical and educational. OSA’s commitment to excellence and long-term learning is the driving force behind all its initiatives.

OSA Members who have served with distinction in the advancement of optics and photonics may be proposed for election to the class of Fellow. The number of Fellows is limited by the Society's bylaws to be no more than 10% of the total OSA Membership and the number elected each year is limited to approximately 0.5% of the current membership total.
