The highly competitive selection is based on their record of accomplishment, the significance of their research proposals, and the quality of their research plans. Jasiuk and Wagoner Johnson will be released from teaching responsibilities for one semester to pursue their research projects during the academic year.
Jasiuk’s project will address the need for accurate predictions of risk of bone fracture, remodeling, and regeneration as well as more accurate diagnosis of osteoporosis. She hopes to do this through several interrelated topics on bone: computational predictive multi-scale model of bone fracture and strength; multiscale biologically based modeling of bone growth; design of new scaffolds and modeling of bone growth; and design of new bone-inspired biomaterials and composites.
