Two MechSE Graduate Students Win Prestigious Scholarship Awards

MechSE doctoral students Farhan Chowdhury and Majid Minary-Jolandan were among 20 graduate students selected by the College of Engineering to receive 2009 Mavis Memorial Fund Scholarship Awards of $5,000. The awards are given each year to promising students who are working toward their doctoral degrees in the College of Engineering.

MechSE doctoral students Farhan Chowdhury and Majid Minary-Jolandan were among 20 graduate students selected by the College of Engineering to receive 2009 Mavis Memorial Fund Scholarship Awards of $5,000. The awards are given each year to promising students who are working toward their doctoral degrees in the College of Engineering.

Chowdhury, who came to MechSE after earning a bachelor's degree from Bangaladesh University of Engineering and Technology and a master's degree from Tuskegee University in Alabama, conducts research in embryonic stem cell mechanics. His adviser is Professor Ning Wang. Minary-Jolandan, who came to MechSE with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran, and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, is working to determine whether collagen's role in bone healing is significant. His adviser is Professor Min-Feng Yu.
