Energetic Materials Lab

The Energetic Materials Lab is dedicated to studying dynamic behavior and instabilities in the combustion of solid rocket propellants and other energetic materials. A small, end-burning rocket motor is used to study the burning response of solid propellants to a rapid increase in pressure. Our goal is to measure properties such as the instantaneous burning rate, temperature, heat flux, and combustion product concentrations during the pressure transient. These data will provide insight into the dynamic burning behavior of solid propellants.
