Vehicle Dynamics & Fluid Power Controls Lab

The Vehicle Dynamics Laboratory focuses on the dynamics and control of principally on-highway vehicles. The lab combines analysis and simulation with experimental testing on dynamically scaled vehicles. Experimental facilities center around the Illinois Roadway Simulator which is a novel, scaled, mechatronic testbed.

The Fluid Power Controls Lab focuses on the dynamics and control of the most effective actuation in terms of power density; hydraulics. Hydraulics are able to concentrate and route power through a system at a much higher density than other actuation methods. The lab has several different types of actuators including cylinders and motors as well as a host of electronic interfacing equipment that is formally dedicated to lab experiments. Examples of lab experiments include the Off Highway Machinery Powertrain simulator and a large scale vibration control testbed.
