Earlier this week I attended our spring SURGE/MERGE meeting at the College of Engineering. MechSE, together with the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois, is committed to the principle that a diverse community enhances our living, learning, and working environment. The Multi-Cultural Engineering Recruitment for Graduate Education (MERGE) and Support for Under-Represented Groups in Engineering (SURGE) programs are just a couple ways in which we enhance our department. The MERGE program takes place each fall, and the SURGE fellowhip program takes place during spring semesters. We look forward to nominating our eligible students and applicants for these awards this year!
