Earlier this week I had the pleasure of speaking to Pi Tau Sigma students at Georgia Tech.  What a great group of students!  It was great to talk to them about our programs and the projects our students are engaged in.  Couldn't attend?  Check out my presentation here.

Back on campus, we're enjoying a crisp Autumn as fall break is upon us.  This semester has gone by so quickly!  Applications for Fall 2015 are rolling in and I want to remind everyone that our priority deadline is December 15th.  Please keep in mind that we receive a high volume of applications and will work to update the status of your documents in the My.MechSE system as quickly as possible.  We have been receiving many questions at mechse-grad[figure="" class="align-center" width="10"]illinois [dot] edu, and there are 3 items I would like to make sure you are aware of:

  • Recommendation letters:  You can submit your application before your references have submitted their letters of recommendation.  In fact, I highly recommend you submit your application as soon as you have completed your portion of the application.  This allows us to start processing your application.  We cannot access your application until you have completed the submission process and paid the application fee.
  • My.MechSE:  You will be able to check the status of your application documents in the My.MechSE system.  Please wait a minimum of 5 business days before contacting the department about missing documents.  Many of the documents require manual review to update the status of each document, and we will work to update each file as quickly as possible.  You will receive information about My.MechSE after you submit your application and pay the application fee.
  • Funding Documentation (for international applicants only):  MechSE does not require funding documentation at this stage - you can skip this section.  You do not have to email our department to request approval for this; we will accept your application without the funding documentation.

You can also find our application process explained here.  The entire process is now online and you do not have to send us anything via postal mail.
