The College of Engineering has awarded Professor Andrew Alleyne its 2008 Teaching Excellence Award. Alleyne was recognized for his efforts to strengthen curriculum, facilities and faculty in the area of controls and dynamics. Since joining the department in 1994, he has worked to create an undergraduate curriculum in controls that is much more unified and consistent, and that focuses on high-impact areas that are important to the development of professional engineers who are poised for leadership in industry and research. He also worked with the Parker Hannifin Corporation and the National Science Foundation to develop the state-of-the-art Parker Motion and Control Laboratory for Undergraduate Education, which is used by nearly 200 students a year. Through his involvement with the Faculty Recruiting Committee, which he currently chairs, he has played a key role in hiring eight professors over the last decade in the dynamics and controls area.
