Dr. Donald Gall (BSME 1956), founding president and chief executive officer of Phoenix-based Omega Legal Systems, spoke about the role fundamentals, preparation, timing, advice and luck play in personal achievement during a special seminar for mechanical engineering students on Wednesday, April 29.

Gall also talked with students about the way computers have shaped his career-from the programming work he did as a student on Illinois' famous ILLIAC computer back in 1952 to his more recent founding of the company that is now the leading provider of financial and practice computer management systems for mid-sized to large law firms.

Gall's lecture was part of the ME 390 course, a series of lectures by faculty and invited authorities from the profession concerning the ethics and practices of mechanical engineering in their relationship to other fields of engineering, economics, and the problems of society. On Friday, May 1, Gall receives the College of Engineering's highest honor for alumni in 2009: the Alumni Honor Award for Distinguished Service in Engineering.
