The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada awarded MechSE student Arash Tajik with a NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship in honor of his academic excellence, research potential, and communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities.

Since 1978, the award has provided financial support to high-caliber scholars engaged in masters or doctoral programs in the areas of natural sciences or engineering. It allows students to concentrate on their studies and seek out the best research mentors in their chosen fields within Canada and abroad. Tajik joined MechSE in Fall 2009 when he chose to pursue his PhD with faculty advisors Professors Ning Wang and Min-Feng Yu. His research focuses on the fabrication of nanoneedle-based probes that can be used to measure, manipulate, and stimulate the dynamics of biological events inside single living cells and their organelles.
