MechSE alumna Alexandra Baumgart (BSME '19) is among 26 U.S. students who have been named as recipients of a Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF), which the DOE provides to future leaders in the field of high performance computing (HPC).

The fellowship provides an annual stipend, payment of university tuition and fees, and an annual academic allowance for up to four years. It also includes a three-month research practicum at one of 21 DOE sites. Only about 5 percent of applicants were chosen this year.

Baumgart was involved in numerous undertakings in her undergraduate years, playing in the Marching Illini band, serving as Pi Tau Sigma president, and interning at Sandia National Laboratory. She also conducted research in MechSE professor Nick Glumac's lab.
