Bullard Receives ASHRAE Award

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) awarded research professor Clark Bullard its 2008 ASHRAE-Alco Medal for Distinguished Public Service, which recognizes outstanding public service that helps to improve the public image of the engineer. In addition to significant research contributions to the development of ozone-safe and efficient air conditioning and refrigeration technologies, Professor Bullard has achieved prominence in the area of technology policy analysis. He served during President Jimmy Carter's administration as the director of the Office of Conservation and Advanced Energy Systems Policy Analysis in the U. S. Department of Energy, and was a member and chair of the Central Midwest Interstate Compact Commission on Low Level Radioactive Waste Management under two different Illinois governors.

In addition to state and federal government agencies, Professor Bullard has lent his engineering expertise to such organizations as the National Wildlife Federation, the Prairie Rivers Network, the Committee on the Middle Fork of the Vermilion River andthe Illinois Environmental Council.

A Fellow of both ASHRAE and the Royal Society of Arts, Commerce and Manufacturers (UK), he previously received the ASHRAE's F. Paul Anderson Award for Technical Achievement and Distinguished Service Award, and the J&E Hall Gold Medal from the Institute of Refrigeration. His previous public service awards include the Public Service Award from the Illinois Division of the Izaak Walton League of America and the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Illinois Sierra Club.
