MechSE alumnus Sean Cronin (BSME ’02) has been recognized by Progressive Railroading as one of its 2020 Rising Stars.

Cronin has extensive railroading experience in the Chicago metro area. In 2016, he left his position as Fleet Director of Diesel Locomotives at Amtrak to join Metra Commuter Rail, where he is now a Senior Director of Mechanical Capital Projects.

“In Sean’s 18 years working in the railroad industry, he has risen through the ranks and turned a job into an exceptional career, mastering positions in mechanical operations and capital projects,” said Metra’s Chief Mechanical Officer Kevin McCann.

Progressive Railroading’s interview with Cronin was published in July 2020.

“My current position oversees all the capital programs undertaken by Metra’s mechanical department, including new rolling stock vehicle procurements, rolling stock overhauls, and vehicle modification programs,” Cronin said in the interview.
