Eric Gobst is the first MechSE student to win the William Schowalter Award. The winner is chosen by his or her reflection of leadership, creativity, encouragement, and dedication to other students and the College of Engineering. The award was established by the Engineering Council in honor of William Schowalter when he retired in February 2001 because of his outstanding service and dedication as the Dean of Engineering for 12 years. It is given to a recipient that reflects his similar passion and devotion to the College. Eric Gobst will receive $3,000 in scholarship and a plaque. His name will also be added to a permanent plaque in the Engineering Hall and he will be recognized at the College of Engineering Awards Convocation in mid-April.
