In ME 370 (Mechanical Design I), students learn the concepts of kinematics and dynamics of machinery, force analysis, cam design, balancing, and the application of elementary mechanics of solids to analyze and size machine components for stress and deflection. The final course project tests these concepts with a challenge to build a robot to compete in a race. Following the tradition of previous robot races, this semester’s ME 370 students worked in teams to design and build 30 robots to compete in a March of the Automata on the Bardeen Quad. Professors Leon Liebenberg and Arend van der Zande led the teams.
