MechSE's incoming Alumni Board President, Rick Furkert, presided over the fall 2008 MechSE Alumni Board meeting last Friday, September 26. Twenty-two past and present board members attended the meeting, where they met with students and new faculty, learned about key initiatives, attended the annual scholarships and fellowship luncheon, and attended a panel on the future of manufacturing.

Professor Naira Hovakimyan, who joined MechSE in fall 2008, provided an overview of her research projects in robust adaptive control of nonlinear systems, active vision control systems for complex adversarial 3D environments, and certification techniques for advanced flight critical systems, among other areas. Associate Professor Sascha Hilgenfeldt, who joined MechSE in April 2008, highlighted his investigations into the energy of interfaces-particularly as it relates to the geometry of the fruit fly's eye.

Alumni who arrived the day before the meeting were also invited to attend a panel discussion for students titled, "Get a Job: How to Prepare for an Interview," followed by an outing at Papa Del's Pizza parlor.
