Rithmio, a company founded by current MechSE grad student Adam Tilton (BSME '10) and MechSE associate professor Prashant Mehta, announced that it has secured $3 million in seed round funding.

“The funds will help us expand our team with algorithm engineers, Android, iOS, embedded and web developers, and also a business development lead,” Tilton said. “We’ll strengthen our wearable tech partnerships, release our gesture recognition SDK and collaborate with developers to ship products built on Rithmio’s platform.”

In 2014, Rithmio's gesture recognition platform for wearable devices won the university-funded category of the annual Cozad New Venture Competition at the University of Illinois.

The company has opened offices in both Champaign and Chicago. More coverage: Chicago Tribune (Blue Sky, June 30), Crain's Chicago Business (June 30), Built in Chicago (June 30).
