Key international policy makers who attended the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Working Party on Nanotechnology meeting this November in Paris, learned about the global need for clean water during an address by Mark Shannon, James W. Bayne Professor at MechSE and Director of the Center of Advanced Materials for Purification of Water with Systems.

Professor Shannon was invited by the Secretary General to speak at the meeting, which was attended by policy makers of the world's 30 largest industrialized nations. The Working Policy on Nanotechnolocy is one of the highest-level multilateral institutions working on the use of nanotechnology. The goal of Shannon's talk was to generate enthusiasm to make water a global challenge application for nanotechnolgy--something that could provide the international support needed to address the global need for clean water.
