MechSE 2012 Distinguished Alumnus Jigar Shah, whose solar electricity company changed the way customers purchase solar energy, continues to share his passion for and deep knowledge of renewable energy technologies. With his long-running weekly podcast, “The Energy Gang,” Shah and his co-hosts discuss the latest cleantech and environmental news, as well as the technological, political, and market forces driving clean energy.

Broadcast by Greentech Media, “The Energy Gang” – with hosts Shah, energy policy expert Katherine Hamilton, and Greentech Media editor Stephen Lacey – has been podcasting since 2013.

In 2003, Shah (BSME ’96) founded SunEdison, a solar electricity company that changed the way customers purchase solar energy and became the largest producer of solar services in the United States by 2009. That year, he sold SunEdison for $200 million. Shortly thereafter, he became the first CEO of The Carbon War Room, a nonprofit that supports global entrepreneurs in scaling their climate solutions. Based on that experience, he authored “Creating Climate Wealth: Unlocking the Impact Economy.”

In 2014, Shah co-founded Generate Capital, a specialty finance company that builds, owns, operates, and finances infrastructure assets involving the world’s critical resources: energy, water, agriculture and basic materials.
