Kimani Toussaint, Jr. was recently elevated to the rank of Senior Member in the Optical Society of America (OSA). A Senior Member of OSA is one who is currently an active member of OSA, and has demonstrated at least 10 years of significant professional experience in the field of optics and photonics. Toussaint directs the laboratory for Photonics Research of Bio/nano Environments (PROBE Lab) which focuses on both developing advanced optical techniques for quantitatively imaging collagen-based biological structures, and investigating the optical properties of plasmonic nanostructures for light-driven control of matter and solar applications.

Newly elevated members will be announced in an upcoming issue of the OSA magazine Optics & Photonics News, as well as in an official press release. OSA has more than 16,000 members comprising optics and photonics scientists, engineers, educators, and business leaders from over 100 countries. It is estimated that approximately 49% of its members reside outside the United States.
