A groundbreaking paper by Professor Ning Wang was highlighted in the Editor's Choice section of Science Signaling, the weekly journal by the publishers of Science magazine. Wang's paper, "Rapid signal transduction in living cells is a unique feature of mechanotransduction," previously appeared in the April Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Other authors listed on the paper include Yingxiao Wang, assistant professor of bioengineering, and MechSE researchers Sungsoo Na, Olivier Collin, Farhan Chowdhury and Bernard Tay, and bioengineering student Mingxing Ouyang. The method the group used to apply mechanical force to adherent cells was so interesting to the publishers that they invited the researchers to contribute a Protocol describing their methods.
