This year's performance was one of the team's best ever.
Led by MechSE students, the Illinois Formula SAE team placed 3rd out of 80 teams at the SAE organization’s event held June 17-20 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Illini team outpaced all other Big Ten entries, including historical top competitors Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Wisconsin.

“Our head faculty advisor, Michael Philpott, and I couldn’t be prouder of what these students have accomplished with a lot of hard work and perseverance,” said Bruce Flaschsbart, the team’s other faculty advisor. “The entire team is very happy and excited about this epic win. The team is stacked with a lot of seniors, who we will sorely miss next year, but I couldn’t be happier with how they are finishing their time at Illinois. They can always look back at this weekend with tremendous pride and savor this memory.”

The team was consistent across the different event categories, placing 3rd in Autocross, 19th in Skidpad, 11th in Acceleration, and 4th in Endurance.
