ME senior Kirk Strebel was one of seven Illinois students to attend the American Society of Mechanical Engineers 2008 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition in Boston.

The four day conference, which was held October 30 through November 2, gave students from the Illinois chapter a chance to interact with other society sections and learn what goes on at a national level. During the student section committee meeting, they discussed the national organization of student section activities.

Strebel, who is President of ASME's University of Illinois student chapter, says attending the meeting was beneficial, because they learned more about how to be an active society on the national level, and were also able to provide the larger group with advice on how to run student design competitions. "It was helpful to be exposed to what other undergraduate students in the country are doing," he says.
