On March 16, several ME seniors visited Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp. headquarters in Brookfield, Wisconsin. The company, which manufactures portable heavy duty electric drills, grinders, hammers, saws, routers, wrenches and other tools, is currently sponsoring two senior design team projects in MechSE.

The semester-long projects provide students with an open-ended problem-solving experience that requires them to synthesize what they have learned in individual courses through an actual industrial problem, while the participating companies obtain a fresh view on an issue within their organization from students and faculty working at the leading edge of the disciplines involved. This semester's ME 470 senior design course involves 28 projects in which teams of three to four seniors are using their knowledge to design a chainless bicycle, a fuel efficient car, an improved cycle ergometer, energy reducing systems and many other items.
